The Presidential Membership Initiative is designed to increase diversity in the GSA membership by offering a free membership through 2024, a discounted membership through 2025, an abstract fee waiver for one GSA conference, and recognition in Genes to Genomes. Apply by November 1, 2023.

Applications are still open for the DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development in Genetics! This award supports geneticists in their graduate or postdoctoral career stages by subsidizing participation in conferences and laboratory courses. The application can be found here. Victoria Finnerty Award application deadline is September 21
Applications are also still open for the Victoria Finnerty Award! This award helps support costs for undergraduates presenting their research at the Annual Drosophila Research Conference happening at TAGC 2024. The application can be found here. Applications are due by September 21, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

GSA is collaborating with the Brazilian Genetics Society, the Latin American Association of Genetics, and the International Genetics Federation to host a series of international seminars (in English, via Zoom) highlighting scientists in North, Central, and South America. The upcoming seminar, “Begomovirus-Plant Interactions: a signaling hub coordinating plant immunity and growth,” will feature speaker Elizabeth P. B. Fontes, on September 25, 2023, from 4–5 p.m. EDT. #Fungal24 website is now live!
Check out the 32nd Fungal Genetics Conference website for details on the upcoming conference, to be held March 12–17, 2024, Asilomar Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove, California. The abstract submission and registration sites will open October 27 and November 3, respectively.
GSA’s Conference Childcare Committee works to support parent scientists and others with caregiving responsibilities as they attend scientific conferences. New committee members are needed to serve through 2024; they will be tasked with fundraising efforts and reviewing Child- and Dependent Care Grant applications ahead of #TAGC24. The committee is led by Co-Chairs Thomas Merritt (Laurentian University) and Rhea Datta (Hamilton College). If you are interested, can commit to monthly meetings, and are able to spend one to three hours a week over the next five months on fundraising, please send an email to conferencechildcare@genetics-gsa.org by September 25.

Call for entries: FASEB BioArt Awards
FASEB is offering awards for submissions of artwork that effectively communicate an important aspect of 21st century biological research. Four entries will be selected across the following categories: Fluorescence or Electron Microscopy, Short video, Other Life Science Images, and Trainee/Early-Career. Each winning entry will receive a prize of $500. Specific requirements for each category can be found online, and the deadline to submit is September 29, 2023, 9 a.m. EDT.

CBE—Life Sciences Education will publish a special issue in 2024 highlighting equity, inclusion, access, and justice in biology education.
